Creative Visual Aids for Children and Adults with Autism and Speech Delays
Creative Visuals was created in 2011 by a single Mom who has a child with Autism. Her child was diagnosed at the age of 2 yrs old. Her child receives Speech and Occupational therapies in addition to Behavioral therapy for the frustration of not being "understood" and the inability to speak yet.
At the advice of all of her child's therapists, especially the Speech therapist, Mom designed similar Picture books, schedules, first/then, and token boards such as the ones on our website just for her child to use to help her child to be "understood".
Her child immediately picked up using the communication photos cards and realized how to get the needs/wants met by using the Picture Communication Book. Her child's frustrations and behaviors reduced as well as the screaming, head banging, and tantrums because her child was now communicating with family, caregivers, and therapists. Using the Picture Communication Book along with other visual aids she has created, has changed her family's life and we hope that it can do the same for your family!
Each child on the spectrum has the ability to learn and become independent with the use of visual supports and the right use of tools and help. Her family, through the advice of his therapists, have found that using picture exchange of photo cards allows her son to communicate by using his pictures instead of or in conjunction with his speech.
Research states that picture/photo/flash card exchange provides a functional outlet or expression for individuals who may have difficulty communicating. This is used to initiate conversations and to express, communicate their wants and needs to another person. It is designed to enhance the life of each individual and their parents/caregivers by helping the person become more independent and to be able to communicate while their bad behaviors such as tantrums, kicking, hitting, crying, head banging, and/or screaming may/will reduce.
It is evidence based. The goal of the communication photos cards is to teach children in the spectrum a fast, self-initiating and functional communication skill. The system begins with the exchange of simple icons but rapidly builds sentence structure. Example "I want apple", "I see park", "I hear train" etc.
Overall using this method can improve behaviors and provide a safer environment for them and parents/caregivers/classmates/friends around them.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT COMMUNICATION PICTURE BOOK. ByAmazon Customer on September 11, 2023 Verified Purchase
"This is an amazing product. I am a parent with a son on the spectrum (ASD). By age 2 it was evident there were speech and language delays. I was first introduced to the PECS system and found it worked great, but some of the pictures had little to no meaning to my son. These pictures of real life items are clearer to my son. The pictures are separated into categories for easy access; no thumbing through the entire book looking for the right pictures. All food items are listed together. The velcro isn't too hard for little fingers to get the picture cards off and place them in the front to let you know what he wants. The binder is small but sturdy enough so carrying it around isn't too bulky or burdening. I have looked pricing other types of Communication books like this and this is by far the most reasonable in price. This would be a great asset for parents, teachers in special ed classrooms and therapy offices. I will be recommending this product to all of my friends."

Creative Visuals was inspired to do all she could to help her child communicate and also wanted to help others do the same! She loves helping families like hers that are also affected by ASD in their homes. She is hoping to educate and help them with Creative Visual Aids to better communicate and reduce meltdowns by those in the home with ASD.
Customer questions & answers:
Question: Does this book come with the " I want " picture cards?
Answer: Yes. It includes "I want" and "emotion" pictures, and many others that may/may not be applicable depending on the age of the child. The book will come in handy when my grandson starts school, but I'm hoping he'll be talking by then and will not need the book.

Question: How thick are the Divider/Pages? (I am looking for a sturdy/stiff divider/page).
Answer: The pages are polypropylene construction which resists wear, tear, and moisture. Very durable.
